Erk FM: Australia 414 – Misinterpreting Happy Endings

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia episode 414. On this episode, Erk features a range of Australian music courtesy of AirPlay Direct.

Kitana is a pop/techno-industrial & electronic performer from Queensland. She has won some awards, had a song featured as an anthem for Australia's national soccer (some people call it football!) team the Socceroos as well as having TV & movie soundtrack credits.

Brisbane based Misinterprotato are an inventive contemporary music ensemble. They released their debut album in 2003. Playing various jazz & folk festivals in Australia, they have received great reviews for their music which shows they are more than your average jazz trio.

Regular listeners to Erk FM know that Erk is a fan of puns, wordplay & innuendo and the final band leads itself right down that alley. The Happy Endings are a Victorian indie rock band. The band love to perform live - their self titled debut album led to an 84 date Australian tour. They have also played festivals and other gigs internationally in America, Europe & the UK.

    Kitana song list:

Erk FM: Australia 412 – Happy 5th Birthday, Erk FM!

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia episode 412. On this episode, Erk celebrates 5 years of producing Erk FM. So where should be be when this episode is released to you? VEGAS, BABY!

On this episode, Erk looks back & features 4 Australian legends of music that he never thought he would be able to play but he can, courtesy of his music suppliers SGC Media & AirPlay Direct. An important part of the future to Erk is looking back at the past & in most cases, the people featured in this episode are still producing music.

The episode opens with guitar wizard Tommy Emmanuel. Following Tommy is Paul Kelly who has had a long career both as a member of a band or solo, winning 8 ARIA awards along the way. Next is Dragon who despite actually being from New Zealand, moved to Australia early in their career. They have had a long history punctuated by several breaks & lineup changes. Finally, Erk finishes the episode with his most famous interviewee, Dave Evans. The original singer of AC/DC, Dave was in several bands & is still rocking hard around the world.

  Of course, this is a...

Erk FM: International 411 – For Your Information, Erk’s Going On A Jet Plane

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: International episode 411. On this episode, Erk sticks with a plane theme because on the day this episode is released, Erk is heading out on a jet plane leaving for America & then Japan & then Singapore. Despite this, there will be episodes for the time Erk is away (January & February).

  Music supplied by AirPlay Direct.

  Song list:

Erk FM: Metal Monday 118 – Sul-Americano De Metal

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 118. On this week's episode, Erk features metal from South America. Erk has not been to South America (yet) although he has friends who can recommend it.   Music supplied by AirPlay Direct & Jamendo.

Erk FM: Australia 410 – More Phoning Home The Beats & Breaking The Rules

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia episode 410. Last week, Erk decided to go down a different path in his musical journey of discovery & knocked on the front door of Sydney electronica artist Phon (not literally, of course!) courtesy of Jamendo. Phon's album BrainDance was released in 2012 & is a staggering 61 tracks long. This perfectly illustrates how easy it seems to produce music & put it on line. Electronica is not normally a genre that Erk plays for a whole show. Erk normally doesn't feature 61 tracks on an episode - last week's episode made it to song 34. This week, songs 35 - 61 are featured including a song that goes for 24 minutes. Another rule broken!

Erk normally doesn't feature a musician that he knows nothing about. Consider all of these 3 rules broken on Erk's musical journey of discovery. Like last week, Erk isn't going to type the names of 61 songs by the same artist!

Erk FM: International 409 – A Very Erk FM Xmas!

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: International episode 409. MERRY XMAS! If you are listening to this episode on the day it is released, you will be listening to a selection of traditional & original Xmas songs on Xmas Day. If you aren't listening to this episode on the day it is released, you will still be listening to a selection of traditional & original Xmas songs.

  Music supplied by AirPlay Direct.

Erk FM: Metal Monday 117 – 70000 Tons Of Metal Preview

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 117. On this episode, Erk previews 70000 Tons of Metal that he will be attending in January 2014. All bands are listed in alphabetical order & will be played in this order on this episode. All 40 bands have not been confirmed as of the recording of this episode (22 December 2013) of this page. So far, 18 bands have been confirmed & announced - bands are subject to change.

In addition, there are a couple of songs from the local scene from a new project to start the episode. Do I Scare Ya? combines Buzz (formerly from A World Less Cruel), Scott (formerly from Evil Ugly) and guest appearances including Attila from Coredea.

Song list (all times are approximate):

Erk FM: Australia 408 – Phoning Home The Beats & Breaking The Rules

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia episode 408. On this episode, Erk decides to go down a different path in his musical journey of discovery & knocked on the front door of Sydney electronica artist Phon (not literally, of course!) courtesy of Jamendo. Phon's album BrainDance was released in 2012 & is a staggering 61 tracks long. This perfectly illustrates how easy it seems to produce music & put it on line. Electronica is not normally a genre that Erk plays for a whole show. Erk normally doesn't feature 61 tracks on an episode. Erk normally doesn't feature a musician that he knows nothing about.

Consider those 3 rules broken on Erk's musical journey of discovery ... oops make that 4 .... Erk isn't going to type the names of 61 songs by the same artist! Actually, make that 5 broken rules. 34 songs took it to over the 2 hour point - more next week!

by Erk

Welcome to episode 403 of Erk FM: International. On this week's episode, Erk features Charlie Faye courtesy of AirPlay Direct. Erk FM: Australia 400 – Looking Back

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia episode 400! On this episode, Erk takes a look back at arguably the best event that he has been involved in during his time hosting Erk FM - Erkstock! Originally recorded as Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 48, the Erkstock special featured bands that Erk wanted to play for him as a part of a birthday celebration in August 2012.   If Erkstock isn't enough for episode 400, Erk also talks about the Smokin Mirrors EP launch (finally, you guys!) including the music video for Set To Ignite. You'll even spot Erk!

For Erkstock, Smokin Mirrors & Vanity Riots opened the event and both bands joined forces for an interview. Smokin Mirrors could almost live at the Valve while for Vanity Riots, it was their penultimate gig with their then current lineup.

Next up was Hard As Nails, this interview was Erk’s first with the entire band. On this occasion, Hard As Nails debuted 2 new songs including one for their hard working roadie Jenn, who also assisted Erk greatly with the running of this event with her new venture Roadie Entertainment.

Cranking things up to 11 for the metal end of the evening were Gutter Tactic who...

Not only is it filled with live music but it is also a blast from the past.

Music on this episode was supplied by AirPlay Direct and was recorded live at Bogart's in Long Beach, California. Erk FM: Metal Monday 111 – Celebraelly Strepped By The Smokin Deli

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 111. On this episode, Erk remembers to play some great hard rock & metal of some local (to him) bands who have just released or have upcoming releases of new material. Erk doesn't feel very well although at the time of recording, he is quite happy with the way his voice sounds - he blames an interesting source (not mentioning any names, Kimmi from The Metal Deli!). While Erk is name dropping, congrats to Ro from Dark Compass who will record episode 600 this week & celebrate the podcast's 9th birthday in December!

Music supplied directly by the artists.

Erk is also counting down to his 2014 overseas trip including Japan. Then there's some hard rock that could well be metal because some bands don't like calling themselves metal.

Erk FM: Metal Monday 108 – Death Or Die Trying!

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 108. Erk decided to keep the death metal theme going from last week's episode with music courtesy of AirPlay Direct. Erk hasn't heard a progress report from Ro or Shawno with their results from Ikea or Death yet but at least they are alive!   Speaking of Shawno, he did some research about a certain German band & how to pronounce their name. He wrote: "Google Translate says that the band name Die Apokalyptischen Reiter means “The Horsemen of the Apocalypse” in English. This doesn’t make it any easier to pronounce in German, tho."    Song list (all times approximate):
