Me Women Of Rock Sausagefest 05022012

Photo: One of Erk’s favourite gigs in 2012 was Sausagefest held at the Lucky Australian Tavern at St Marys. It determined the running order for Deadfest 2012 & was also the event where Erk started approaching bands to play at Erkstock. Erk FM: Australia is a music podcast featuring various artists from Erk’s own country – Australia. Available every Friday from December 2011, it is a companion podcast to Erk FM: International released on Wednesdays. Both podcasts were formerly on Fridays from January 2009 until November 2011 as Erk FM. This approach allows Erk to focus on Australian music in dedicated episodes while also allowing more exposure for overseas artists.

Australia is a large country & there are many styles of music as well as many different music scenes mainly focused on the major state capital cities & regional areas. Thanks to the interweb, it has become a lot easier for Australian musicians to get their music out to the world.

Kitana is a pop/techno-industrial & electronic performer from Queensland. She has won some awards, had a song featured as an anthem for Australia's national soccer (some people call it football!) team the Socceroos as well as having TV & movie soundtrack credits.

Regular listeners to Erk FM know that Erk is a fan of puns, wordplay & innuendo and the final band leads itself right down that alley. The Happy Endings are a Victorian indie rock band. The band love to perform live - their self titled debut album led to an 84 date Australian tour. They have also played festivals and other gigs internationally in America, Europe & the UK.

Erk FM: Australia 410 – More Phoning Home The Beats & Breaking The Rules

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia episode 410. Last week, Erk decided to go down a different path in his musical journey of discovery & knocked on the front door of Sydney electronica artist Phon (not literally, of course!) courtesy of Jamendo. Phon's album BrainDance was released in 2012 & is a staggering 61 tracks long. This perfectly illustrates how easy it seems to produce music & put it on line. Electronica is not normally a genre that Erk plays for a whole show. Erk normally doesn't feature 61 tracks on an episode - last week's episode made it to song 34. This week, songs 35 - 61 are featured including a song that goes for 24 minutes. Another rule broken!

Erk normally doesn't feature a musician that he knows nothing about. Consider all of these 3 rules broken on Erk's musical journey of discovery. Like last week, Erk isn't going to type the names of 61 songs by the same artist!

Erk FM: Australia 408 – Phoning Home The Beats & Breaking The Rules

Consider those 3 rules broken on Erk's musical journey of discovery ... oops make that 4 .... Erk isn't going to type the names of 61 songs by the same artist! Actually, make that 5 broken rules. 34 songs took it to over the 2 hour point - more next week!
