Erk To The Diary Room 03 – Icey Icey Pilots & Truckers

Welcome to Erk To The Diary Room episode 03. On this episode, Erk talks about 2 reality/documentary series that are set in very cold parts of the world – Ice Pilots NWT (as seen by Erk on Foxtel’s Nat Geo) and Ice Road Truckers (as seen by Erk on Foxtel’s A & E).

Ice Pilots NWT

Ice Pilots NWT is focused on Buffalo Airways in the far north of Canadia. Buffalo provides freight and passenger services using a range of WWII era aircraft – it is a constant battle to keep the old warbirds in the sky, the clients and workers happy – not forgetting the very cold weather conditions. In the US, the show airs on History. [Official site] [Buffalo Airways]

Ice Road Truckers

Ice Road Truckers is primarily based in far north Canadia however some series have also used Alaska as a shooting location. The weather, other vehicles and the ice and snow are constant variables. Starting purely as a reality show, there is now a competition element – if only to provide a way of assessing the workload of each driver. A spin-off series is called IRT: Deadliest Roads. A similar series but separate to IRT: Deadliest Roads was called World’s Toughest Trucker. In the US, the show was originally shown on History but is now shown on A & E. [Official site]

I have seen “Ice Road Truckers” thru season four. I think the first season is the best one and they kinda go downhill from there. I had no idea that they eventually took the show to South America? No wonder they tried to just call the show “IRT.”
