Welcome to episode 241 of Erk Pod. This is a special episode of Erk Pod based on feedback received about Erk Pod episode 239 where Erk was talking about police pursuits. Erk recaps the stories and then Trucker Tom from the Trucker Tom podcast gives some feedback based on these stories. After this, Erk asked some targeted questions of two subject matter experts who have appeared on Erk Pod before. First we hear from Richard from the Wasting Time podcast. In the past, Richard was a Police Officer. After Richard, we hear from Steve from Some Guys In A Car. Steve is a currently serving Police Officer outside of podcasting.

To possibly illustrate these points to end the episode, listen to a real life police pursuit courtesy of Scan StocktonSan Diego Public Safety where there was a 45 minute pursuit involving the local law enforcement agency (San Diego Police Department) including a helicopter as well as the California Highway Patrol.

All opinions expressed on this episode are personal opinions only based on observations & experience and may not reflect those of actual law enforcement agencies.

Nice Show. I enjoyed the topic. Sorry I didn’t give you a polished answer like Richard. Still it seems like Richard and I are on the same page. The thing about pursuits is that it always depends on a lot of factors and depending how the pursuit ends often causes others to questions whether the pursuit should or shouldn’t have been done. Anyway, Loved listening to the pursuit at the end of the show. Very professional. When it first starts you can hear the adrenalin in the first officer’s voice. The dispatcher in this call did an excellent job!!

This episode definitely gives me lots to think about. It was very interesting to hear the opinions of Richard and Steve. The actual audio from a real pursuit at the end was exciting!

Definitiely interesting. With respect to our American friends – I’m glad we don’t do the extreme manouvers like the pit manouver etc here in Australia. Pesonally I don’ t care what the POI has done. If continuing the chase is going to put innocent people at risk then best to abandon the chase.
