Welcome to episode 268 of Erk Pod. This is a special episode focusing on the overthrow of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd who was defeated by Julia Gillard. Twitter absolutely exploded on the evening of Wednesday 23 June 2010 with rumors of a leadership challenge of the Australian Labor Party between Kevin Rudd & Julia Gillard. Initially, it could have been described as mere speculation. As the night went on, media coverage grew and there was a late night media conference (VIDEO) by Kevin Rudd saying that there will be a leadership ballot at 9am on Thursday 24 June (VIDEO). At the ballot, Gillard was elected unopposed as leader of the ALP and therefore the Prime Minister of Australia. (VIDEO). It is a historic day as Julia Gillard is elected as Australia’s first female PM and first unmarried PM as well.

Joining the Insomnia Radio network of podcasts with several local variations, the show is designed to bring Australian indie & unsigned artists to the world’s attention. Rest assured though that this podcast does not replace Erk FM which is still going strong and fast approaching episode 100!
