Welcome to an extended episode of Blast From The Past. In this episode, Judy tells you about her knees, Erk talks about #badoptus, feedback from Donut Boy and Jennymaid and that’s all before we got to the topic.
Judy talks about her time working for the Army as a telephonist in a “Vietnam Position”. Not all of the job was about answering phones and calling everyone sir as you’ll find out. There is beer, Santa, party pies and more as looking after the troops after hours was just as important as what happened during the day.

Welcome to a special episode of Erk Pod. Yes, I know you’ve already had an episode of Erk Pod this week (Erk Pod 219) but the dust storm that swept Sydney into a sea of orange dust stirred up a lot of talk and I thought that I could not wait a week to talk about it. Because I slept through the entire thing as it was happening, I am relying on people who were awake at the time. If you were awake at the time and are listening to this episode, feel free to give me feedback about what it was like for you. Erk talks about what happened and what was the aftermath. Were we prepared? Were we warned? Did we cope? Those questions and more may be answered by Erk or indeed may be answered by people who were awake. While talking about being prepared for events such as this, Erk refers to the Mitigation Journal podcast hosted by Rick Russotti. To hear Rick talk more about subjects such as this (mainly from an Emergency Services or a Public Safety point of view), check out the Mitigation Journal. Also, you can hear Erk interview Rick here on the first half of Erk Pod episode 196.

I’m not just saying this because I’ve been on Strange Love Live with Cami Kaos and Dr Normal or they’ve been on a few episodes of various Channel Erk shows. I’m not just saying this because I spent an awesome week with them including spotting Fosters trucks in Portland. Nor am I saying it just because Dr Normal and I were up until 4am watching (and laughing loudly at) Bargearse videos on You Tube while Cami was trying to sleep.
Nor am I saying it just because of all of the wonderful people in Portland and beyond that I met through them. Nor the extended voice over session that Cami and the Doc did for me (most of which hasn’t been heard yet).
Add all of this together and a lot more and you have this video which featured as a part of this presentation about Strange Love Live at WordCamp Portland. It is more than a simple little audio podcast now. These days there are 2 versions of the show (Tech and After Hours) both on audio and video. Then there are various live events that they attend, often taking the SLL studio with them. And now the show appears across Portland on public access TV!
So here’s a great video looking back through the life and times of SLL – SO FAR! And I happen to be in it! So if you haven’t subscribed to SLL yet (if not, why not?), watch this video! And if you have subscribed to the show, you might see some things you haven’t seen before – I know I did!
Welcome to this episode of Judy’s Blast FM. This show features Michael Kelsey and Kelly Richey. Judy enjoys listening to these two artists. Also there is some feedback from Shawno as well as Jennymaid. And if that’s not enough, there is a surprise or 3! Thank you to Rich Palmer from Audio Gumshoe which is where Erk & Judy both first heard Michael.
Song list:
- The Way It Rolls – Michael Kelsey
- The Funky Farm – Michael Kelsey
- Slow Moving Train – Michael Kelsey
- What In The World – Kelly Richey
- Overland – Michael Kelsey
- Without A Trace – Kelly Richey
- Carry The Light – Kelly Richey
- Electric Elves – Michael Kelsey
- Angela’s Song – Kelly Richey
- Old Guitar – Michael Kelsey

Welcome to episode 32 of Blast From The Past. This episode was originally going to be a special about relaxation. Then it was going to be a feedback special. Then Judy had a Blast From The Past and had organised a special in-studio guest. Then we had special in-studio guest FAIL so it is again an Feedback special.
We had a lot of feedback from Shawno & Jen from Hyper Nonsense as well as from Jennymaid. Included in this episode is some audio about how Jen got her driver’s licence, eventually.
At the end of the show, we also find out what is ticking Judy off apart from waiting for in-studio guests to appear.
And as a bonus, here are the Goggomobil ads we were talking about. The first one is the Yellow Pages ad and the second one is the Shannons Insurance ad.

Erk was planning to feature New Zealand artists in week 2 of the Erk FM Musical United Nations Tour. However Erk was un-happy with the music and lack of range so after recording the episode, it was cancelled. So instead, Erk featured New Zealand band AMMP and some listener feedback.
Song list:
- Dirty Rock & Rock – AMMP
- Go - AMMP
- Ironman - AMMP
- Don’t Leave Here - AMMP
- All I Wanted - AMMP
- Always- AMMP
There are also a couple of surprises that you’ll have to listen out for!

Earlier this week, I had the bright idea that I wanted to improve the navigation here on the website. My current WordPress theme seemingly was not capable of doing multi-level navigation and drop-down menus. So I decided to change that. Long story cut short, I tried various WP plugins, javascript code and menu builders. I even broke the site at one time. However I have fixed that now and you’ll notice a nice new menu system on the site.
In conjunction with the new menu system, I took the chance to create separate pages for contact info, history, 2009 episode lists, 2010 episode lists (obviously not here yet but under one menu system, I needed to add it now or not at all) and more. Then I thought that I would put the show notes for the latest episode on the landing page for each show until David van Sunder pointed out to me that he couldn’t leave comments that way. I’ve been so busy promoting Channel Erk and channelerk.com that I forgot for a moment that many people still come in via erkpod.com.au etc. So that’s now been fixed. And on all the landing pages except for Blast FM and Echo, there are some related videos for you to see, too.
Now that all was frustrating in itself. I ended up wasting several hours until I managed to find the plugin I wanted so overall the pain was worth it and I hope you find use out of it. It allows for future growth and it looks good and can help to expand the site. If that was my only source of frustration, that would have been enough. But it wasn’t.
A couple of days ago, mum thought that she had arranged her first in-studio guest to appear on this week’s episode of Blast From The Past. It was all arranged and agreed but the guest pulled out. So we wasted a lot of time waiting and planning for something that didn’t happen. This week’s episode of Blast is a Feedback special and there is a lot of feedback, especially from Shawno and Jen.
If that wasn’t enough, I recorded this week’s episode of Erk FM. It was due to be the second part of the 2009 Erk FM Musicial United Nations Tour from New Zealand. I wanted to use the same music source for the entire tour and I didn’t want to pre-listen. But if I had of pre-listened, I would have found out that the music wasn’t to my normal high standard. So I cancelled the episode after recording it and we have a new surprise instead.
But it is all sorted now. Move along people, nothing to see here!
