Welcome to episode 277 of Erk Pod. On this episode of Erk Pod, Erk analyses the Australian Federal Election that was held on the weekend, does some housekeeping and reads some feedback.
The Australian Federal Election that was held on Saturday 21 August 2010 was very hotly contested and as of the time of recording this episode (early on the morning of Wednesday 25 August 2010), there is no clear winner and the real possibility of a hung parliament. Counting of votes is still underway at the time of recording. All figures given are current at the time of recording and were supplied by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC). It is the job of the AEC to oversee the entire election process from when an election is called until when the votes are counted. The ABC website also has an excellent coverage of the election results. Audio of speeches from Prime Minister Julia Gillard & Opposition Leader Tony Abbott from the night of the election is from the ABC.
Apart from the election, there is housekeeping & some feedback from Shawno & Albert in the regular feedback segment for the month of August. There’s also a song or two!
- MUSIC: Ain’t No Housewife – Stephanie Quayle (AirPlay Direct)
- MUSIC: Eric Was An Engineer – Rubber Clown Car (Podsafe Music Network)

Welcome to episode 268 of Erk Pod. This is a special episode focusing on the overthrow of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd who was defeated by Julia Gillard. Twitter absolutely exploded on the evening of Wednesday 23 June 2010 with rumors of a leadership challenge of the Australian Labor Party between Kevin Rudd & Julia Gillard. Initially, it could have been described as mere speculation. As the night went on, media coverage grew and there was a late night media conference (VIDEO) by Kevin Rudd saying that there will be a leadership ballot at 9am on Thursday 24 June (VIDEO). At the ballot, Gillard was elected unopposed as leader of the ALP and therefore the Prime Minister of Australia. (VIDEO). Hear Erk’s opinion on this subject as well as the speeches by the outgoing & incoming Prime Minister (audio only). (VIDEO – The Rudd Years)
It is a historic day as Julia Gillard is elected as Australia’s first female PM and first unmarried PM as well.
So what happens now? The Australian Electoral Commission shows the timetable and earliest & latest possible Australian Federal Elections.
