Erk FM: International 443 – Severe Pain Makes Erk Something Something (repeat first Erk FM: International episode)

by Shawn

Welcome to episode 443 of Erk FM: International. Due to Erk being in severe pain due to a leg infection, Erk decided to bring you a repost of the very first episode of Erk FM: International, Erk FM: International episode 197. Erk FM started in January 2009 as a podcast featuring music from around the world every Friday. During Erk's Europe trip in 2011, he decided to separate Australian music to create Erk FM: Australia (even numbered episodes on Fridays) and then Erk FM: International (odd numbered episodes, Wednesdays).

Erk Pod 469 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Day 15 – Zooming To Trivia In PDX

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 469. Moving from one of Erk's favourite cities in America (San Francisco) to another (Portland), it was a short flight up the Pacific coast to Portland. Straight off the plane & straight into a shuttle, Erk soon finds his hotel & then is off to a trivia night. As it turned out, the hotel had a bus stop outside the front door & there was a bus coming very shortly.

While it was a rush from the airport, Erk made it to trivia - any time that Erk goes to trivia in Portland, it must be with Quizmaster Polly. The rush was worth it & as a bonus, he also got to see Dr Normal.

WARNING - This episode features Erk drinking beer.

Erk FM: Metal Monday 134 – Severe Pain Make Erk Something Something (repeat episode 1)

This week's episode features music that Erk was exposed to during his 2011 European trip as well as music that Erk has used to promote the show prior to the launch of this episode. Music supplied by AirPlay Direct & also the artists directly (used with permission).

The introductory voice at the start of the episode is Michael, vocalist for Sydney band Amodus.

Erk FM: Australia 442 – Excellent Friday

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia. Present Erk is really happy with Past Erk for creating a playlist a week early. Erk can just sit back & listen to some songs from some artists that he enjoyed last week. For some people who work office hours, it is a 4 day long weekend but for Erk, it's business as usual & great Australian music as usual.

Erk FM: International 441 – Shaking Up The Americana

by Shawn

Welcome to Erk FM: International episode 441. On this episode, Erk continues with last week's female artist theme. Starting across the ditch from Erk in New Zealand, the episode then moves to Portland (Keep it weird, Portland!) and Colorado. There's a nice variety of music on this episode even though we stay in Americana territory.   Music supplied by Airplay Direct.

Erk Pod 467 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Day 14 – Go Go Go San Francisco Car!

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 467. Day 14 of the trip is the last full day of Erk's visit in San Francisco. There is one thing that Erk must do on his visit that he had a great time doing last year - a ride in a Go Car! It turned out to be a great way to zoom around the city, find fire stations and fire trucks as well as a heart stopping moment. There's also some great navigation!

Erk FM: Metal Monday 133 – Happy Metal, Smiley Face

by Shawn

Welcome to Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 133. On this week's episode, there's some more great North American metal and as an added bonus, there's even some videos for you to enjoy if you go to the episode's shownotes on the Erk FM: Metal Monday website!

There's so much metal out there that's about death & destruction but on this episode, there's also some humorous songs - some people might describe the songs as nerdcore.

Erk Pod 466 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Day 13 – Exploring San Francisco Quackingly With Captain Jeff

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 466 recorded in San Francisco. Erk's time in San Francisco is rapidly running out with his next spot being Portland in a couple of days. There are many areas in San Francisco to explore & Erk is determined to explore areas and neighbourhoods that he is not as familiar with. A highlight of this episode is a repeat of an Aqua Duck tour but with a different Captain behind the wheel/helm.

Erk FM: Australia 440 – Wall To Wall Ladies

by Shawn

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia episode 440. It has been a while since Erk has produced an Erk FM: Australia episode with multiple artists as an all female episode. This was not by design but just the way it turned out. In a couple of cases, the artists were born overseas but relocated to Australia which more than qualifies them to be featured on this episode.

All music supplied by AirPlay Direct.

  Song list (all times approximate):

Erk Pod 465 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Day 12 – Streetcar Sunday in San Francisco

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 465. Seeing as though Streetcar Saturday had to be postponed due to no streetcars, there were streetcars on Sundays. The trackwork was only for Saturday & Sunday's schedule was unaffected so Streetcar Saturday became Streetcar Sunday.

At the start of the day, Erk listens to an NFL game on a radio inside a shop. The local football team (the San Francisco 49ers) were playing in the post-season on their way to the 2014 Superbowl. Erk doesn't know everything about American football however he knows enough to get by.

Later on, Streetcar Sunday starts in earnest. San Francisco have imported various streetcars from different parts of America & across the world. Of particular interest was an unusual looking and sounding streetcar from Blackpool, England.

Erk FM: International 439 – Erk Feels Like Chicken Tonight

by Shawn

Welcome to Erk FM: International episode 439. As Erk works through his long list of submissions, Erk feels like chicken tonight & plays a selection of rock songs courtesy of Deuce Management & Promotion. There's also (finally!) a link between the Homer Simpson soundbyte in the theme music and one of the bands on this week's episode. And just for the sake of it & totally not required, there's some cowbell. (Go Winterhawks!)

  Song list (all times approximate):

  • 02:39 - Save Me (From Tonight) - Two Choices (Deuce Management & Promotion)
  • 05:37 - Burning  - Two Choices (Deuce Management & Promotion)

Erk Pod 464 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Day 11 – San Jose Saturday

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 464. Erk's original plan on day 11 of his trip was to enjoy Streetcar Sunday in San Francisco. But trackwork meant that there were no streetcars on the main F line. In the quest to be more relaxed and less planned, Erk got distracted while passing the San Francisco Caltrain station. Before you know it, Erk is on a Super Bullet Train (their expression, not Erk's) heading for San Jose. San Jose wasn't somewhere that was on Erk's radar but considering that is where the train was going & it was a fast (by American standards) train, Erk decided that San Jose was where he was going.

So what is in San Jose? Erk had no idea that he was going to be confused by a local as law enforcement or a city worker. He had no idea that he was going to babysit a bus while the bus driver was going to the toilet at the end of the route.

Erk FM: Metal Monday 132 – O Canadian Metal

by Shawn

Welcome to Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 132. Erk is back in the Erk FM: Metal Monday studio & is wading through his submissions that he received while overseas. Erk is learning & hearing a lot about the Canadian metal scene, partly from Canadians who excelled in the field of being Canadian at 70000 Tons of Metal and partly thanks to Asher from Asher Media Relations.

All music supplied by Asher Media Relations & used with permission.

  Song list:

Erk Pod 463 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Day 11 – Streetcar Saturday in San Francisco is KLOSED!

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 463 recorded in San Francisco. The plan for the day was to repeat something Erk did in New Orleans last year - Streetcar Saturday. However as Erk found out, buses are replacing streetcars on the F line. Then Erk decided to catch the Muni light rail before getting distracted. One thing that Erk has been trying to do during this trip is to be more spur of the moment rather than a lot of planning. In the next episode, you'll see what distracted Erk & where he ended up on Streetcar Saturday.

Erk FM: Australia 438 – Halfway To Darwin

by Shawn

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia episode 438. Erk is back in the Erk FM: Australia studio after his epic overseas trip & has a lot of Australian music in his submission queue.

On this episode, Erk features several songs from 2 artists courtesy of SGC Media.

The episode opens with Brisbane band Halfway. Some of the foundation members are from Rockhampton in central Queensland. Eventually with the addition of some further members from Brisbane & Ireland, the band is now complete as an 8 piece band.

The second track of this week's episode features Tom E Lewis. Erk has not had an easy time finding indigenous Australian Aboriginal music so when Tom's new album came to Erk's attention, he knew that it had to be featured. Tom is an actor & a musician who lives in the Northern Territory.

SGC Media represented artists feature predominate on this episode & then the episode climaxes with a couple of Erk FM favourites who Erk has seen live since being back in Australia.

Music supplied by SGC Media & the artists directly.

  Song list (all times approximate):

Erk Pod 462 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Day 10 – Erk’s Left His Heart In San Francisco!

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 462. Erk is now firmly established in San Francisco, one of his favourite US cities. With heritage streetcars, light rail, subways, cable cars, buses & trolleybuses, there's a lot of Erk to explore on the public transport system of the city. As this is Erk's longest visit to the city, he has more time to explore the area.

Erk FM: International 437 – Studio Time, Mr Wayne!

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: International episode 437. Erk is now back in the Erk FM: International studio & wading through his long list of submissions during his recent holiday. Erk is starting with submissions directly from the artists. In addition to Erk's long trip overseas, a highlight was meeting up with fellow music podcaster Justin Wayne from The Justin Wayne Show. Justin interviewed Erk from the Main Street Studios in Walla Walla & the interview was originally featured on episode 225 of Justin's show.

All music supplied directly by the artist.

  Song list (all times approximate):

Erk Pod 461 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Days 8 & 9 – The Hilly Streets Of San Francisco

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 461 from one of Erk's favourite US cities, San Francisco. This trip will see Erk be in the city for longer than his previous 2 trips so there will be more time for Erk to explore the city in typical Erk fashion. Every time Erk arrives in the city, he instantly remembers how hilly the city actually is. Staying in a new part of downtown near Chinatown, Erk has a lot to explore.

Erk FM: Metal Monday 131 – 70000 Tons Of Metal (Part 5)

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Metal Monday episode 131. This is the final week of Erk FM: Metal Monday's coverage of 2014's 70000 Tons of Metal. This week's episode starts with The Entity by Temtris - another song off their newly released album Shallow Grave. Next on the playlist are a couple of metal bands from western Sydney who will be touring Japan in the near future. Tensions Arise (In The Eye Of Fire) were first to announce their visit followed by a more recent announcement from Not Another Sequel Just Another Prequel (What Is Love).

The final track of this episode was obtained onbroad 70000 Tons of Metal & was the only CD that Erk left the ship with at the end of the cruise. Erk bumped into a member of Bulletbelt while on the ship & it was great to hear a Kiwi accent. The song featured is the title track Down In The Cold Of The Grave.

Erk Pod 455 – Wandering Around The American TV

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 455. Recorded in Vegas in January 2014, Erk goes for a trip around the TV like he has done previously in Mexico. There will be another episode in this style during Erk's overseas trip early in 2014 from Japan & Singapore. Listeners to Erk To The Diary Room will also receive this episode as an Erk To The Diary Room.

Erk Pod 460 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Day 8 – Erk To The Vegas Courtesy Phone

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 460. It is time for Erk to move on from Vegas & head to one of his favourite cities in the US - San Francisco. Recorded using a mixture of iPhone & Zoom H4N audio recorder, this episode was mostly recorded at Vegas' McCarran International Airport. Thanks to the relaxation of use of Personal Electronic Devices on most domestic US aircraft, Erk is able to bring you some audio from the departing flight. Long term Erk Pod listeners know that Erk loves recording podcast episodes at airports & listening to the various airport announcements. However in recent times, Erk has been spending more time in airport lounges rather than the concourse & gate areas.

Erk Pod 459 – Erk’s Pacamerican Circle Day 7 – Post Expo Vegasing

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 459. With Erk still buzzing after New Media Expo, it is back into tourist/travel mode for Erk. It is Erk's last full day in Vegas before heading off to San Francisco. Unlike many people Erk met over the weekend, he didn't have to rush back home or to work. It was an enjoyable day & Erk was able to play tour guide for some fellow expo attendees.

Erk FM: Australia 436 – Hay In The Valley

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: Australia episode 436. On this episode, Erk features Australian rock legend Colin Hay courtesy of AirPlay Direct. Songs on this episode are from Colin's solo career after Men At Work.

  Song list:

Erk Pod 458 – New Media Expo Part 3

by Erk

Welcome to Erk Pod episode 458. It is the final episode recorded at New Media Expo 2014 in Vegas. On this episode, Erk finds out about the Future Of Podcasting, the State Of Podcasting. Blackberry's latest social network, hearing live podcasts and a lot more. Erk asks about a statement "podcasting is dead" and hears some new (to him) voices that are well established in the podcasting community.

  Guests.

Erk To The Diary Room 23 – Wandering Around Asian TV

by Erk

Welcome to Erk To The Diary Room episode 23. This episode was recorded in two halves from different parts of Asia. The episode opens in a hotel room in Tokyo, Japan. Like the previous episode, Erk samples hotel room TV. However on this episode, there is an Asian theme. The second half of the episode was recorded in Singapore. While both countries are in Asia, they are very different.   Japan is highly Japanese (thank you, Captain Obvious!) with all of the TV that Erk sampled being in the Japanese language. While there was English around Tokyo in general society, Japanese is by far the dominant language. However in Singapore, there is more of a mix in languages with variations of Chinese, Indian, Malaysian, Singaporean & western cultures & languages.   The episode was recorded on Erk's iPad & the multitasking was not quite up to the job which meant that there may be some gaps in the recording.

Erk FM: International 433 – Singapore Starfish

by Erk

Welcome to Erk FM: International episode 433. Continuing the Singapore theme, Erk features Starfish Stories & Tina Valentine. Who knows, by the time this episode is scheduled to be released, maybe Erk has found some more Singaporian music to feature in coming weeks.

  Music supplied by Jamendo.
